My Financial Confessions List of 2011 is as follows:
1) My biggest financial sin of 2011 is not refinancing my mortgage when I was able to in early 2011. The rates were so low. I was hoping they would get lower. I also was lazy. I admit it. There was just so much paperwork involved!
I then got ill, lost my job and was unable to refinance without a job. Now, I am stuck with my old finance rate which is quite high compared to rates now.
2) As a result of #1, I needed to take out money from my 401K to pay my mortgage in 2011 (I swore I would never do this)! Add insult to injury but I did not prepay the penalty taxes when I removed the monies from my 401K.
Based on my two huge mistakes, I am going to be hit with a HUGE tax bill this year along with having my huge mortgage rate that could have been easily reduced in the beginning of the year (negating the need to touch my 401K)!
